Two full-time staff operate a Shared Dispatch Call Center for multiple communities Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM. Callers receive a high level of service from trained Dispatchers who get to know them personally and accommodate their individual needs. Schedules are developed daily using demand response software and are sent to operators via tablet. Detailed monthly reports are available to communities.
This community wanted to take a unique approach to transportation and mix students, seniors, commuters, and other residents on trips to medical appointments, shopping, services, and to socialize. The flexible scheduling allows for a different route every day based on need. The result has been an extremely popular and successful shuttle that has broken down barriers and improved mobility options.
A group of dedicated volunteers oversee this community-based service in a neighborhood of Boston that is underserved by transit. The bus gets local residents to the MBTA transit hub, to shopping, and to medical appointments. Without this important route, riders would only otherwise have much more expensive options to get around.
